Field Trials, Hunting, Fishing, Bird Watching
The tracts that comprise M. Barnett Lawley Forever Wild Field Trial Area are named in honor of the former Department of Conservation and Natural Resources commissioner. Located in Hale County, the tract encompasses 3,342 acres of Black Belt prairie habitat that includes a mix of prairie grassland and pine-hardwood forest.
This area provides potential for habitat restoration, as well as numerous recreational opportunities that include field trial sites and handicap hunting stations.

Recreational opportunities abound on the Wehle Tract in Bullock County. Visitors to these 1,505 acres of rolling pine hills and hardwood branch bottoms can camp, fish, canoe, hike, ride horseback, observe wildlife, take mountain biking trails or go hunting. In addition to providing public recreation the Wehle Tract also serves a nature preserve.
Adjoining the tract is the Wehle Nature Center, provided by the State Lands Division to promote environmental education. The center is available for small group events and workshops in combination with fun, competitive activities.

The Garrett Coliseum has been host to world famous entertainers such as Elvis Presley, Elton John, Prince and Kenny Chesney. This 118 acre multi-purpose facility has an arena providing indoor seating for over 10,500 people and 33,800 square feet of floor space. There’s an exhibition building, livestock barn, dairy barn, a 600 stall horse stable, and 20 acres of paved parking. This is a great venue for hosting your next big event.
